What is the Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1987 (PDMA)?
It’s a law passed by Congress in 1988. Its primary objective was to strengthen distribution controls over prescription drugs – and consequently, to help ensure the safety and effectiveness of those drugs. The law, and subsequent regulations, mandate that pharmaceutical companies implement specific accounting policies and procedures to lessen the risks posed by counterfeit, adulterated, misbranded or expired drugs.
2. What is The PDMA Alliance?
The PDMA Alliance Inc. is a non-profit corporation comprised of professionals who are dedicated to improving the pharmaceutical industry’s understanding of the PDMA, and meeting the intent and mandates of the law. An important focus of the organization is strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of prescription drug sample accountability programs.
3. What are the objectives of The PDMA Alliance?
In addition to providing learning opportunities, exchanging ideas and networking on issues related to PDMA sample compliance, the Alliance communicates with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other authorities to improve business and security practices.

What is the relationship between The PDMA Alliance and the Annual PDMA Sharing Conference?
The PDMA Alliance Inc., is a year round effort that includes ongoing communication with members through its website (www.pdmaalliance.org). Each year, the Alliance holds The PDMA Sharing Conference, a meeting of PDMA compliance professionals who benefit from the expertise of PDMA law enforcement and industry leaders, review new PDMA compliance products and services and share in informal communications with their colleagues and business partners.

How do I become a member of The PDMA Alliance?

What will I gain from the Members Only section?
The Members Only section is a source for PDMA compliance professionals to get many of the answers they need regarding adherence to the PDMA. There are user friendly links to a Walk Through History of the PDMA; information about current investigations and court cases; contact information for the FDA, DEA and OIG; and the opportunity to participate in the web-based FDA Incident Reporting System. There’s also an Interact with the Alliance page where members can add their voices to the thoughts and ideas of their PDMA compliance colleagues.
